It's been a while, Internet.
Of the 9 people I know from school who had websites, this is one of four that are still even running, and aside from this update only one of them has been updated since 2006.
I guess blogging falls by the wayside when you get jobs...
Oh yeah. Did I mention that? I got a job. Anyone who knows about my interests when I started this whole damned odyssey will know what I mean when I say I got my dream job.
It's kind of weird, actually. I'm doing exactly what I wanted to do when I left the IT job behind. Fewer than 15 people are doing that, and I'm one of them. When you look at it that way, it's exceptionally wild.
It's been a long and winding path, and I can't say I wouldn't change it if I could, but where I am right now is a pretty neat place. I'm working harder than I've ever worked at a job and I love doing it. The view from this side of the curtain isn't anything near what I expected, and yet it's also exactly what I anticipated in a lot of ways.
I've learned that management and production have more to do with the quality of a game than almost anything else, but a bad hire can bite you hard for a long time. I've learned that the people on the inside are pretty much the same as people on the outside, just with a different perspective. And, generally, smarter. I've learned that sometimes the grass is greener, and sometimes it isn't, but poor management can kill the grass beneath your feet if you let it. I've learned that there's always someone who took a longer, tougher path.
I took a huge leap of faith when I decided to move out of my home state and go to school in 2005. I made some great friends and learned skills that I wouldn't have been able to learn any other way. I've made some great friends and worked with some great colleagues. I've missed almost all of my nephew's life. I haven't seen Oak Mountain change colors, or any mountain. I haven't been woken up on an October Saturday by the marching band's morning runthrough. Is it worth it 7 years later?
Probably.
Yeah.
