Globetrotting news from around the world!

News: Things Happen! So updates don't happen that often. Most of this can be blamed on City of Heroes, which had quite the hold on me throughout late May and June. More on this later.

Bigger news, though, was our trip to London at the beginning of July. It was an amazing trip, and I still haven't quite sorted through it all in my head yet. I'll do a quick rundown of the sites and sights...

London Calling

My parents, one of my sisters, and I visited Europe at the beginning of the month. Mom and Dad flew from Nashville via Cleveland, while Laura flew here to Orlando and we flew together.

Mom and Dad stayed at The Connaught, a hotel which is far too fancy for its own good. Laura and I stayed in the far more sane Millennium Bailey's, which is still exactly 100 years older than I am. This fact isn't really very noteworthy in Europe.

For those of you who don't know, a flight to Europe from the USA requires an eight hour plane ride, and you land very early in the morning. Virgin didn't let us get much sleep on the plane, so we were basically out of it that day. We took an open top bus tour of London, several cab rides, and then finished the day at the Connaught's Grill Room, which was so classy I was embarassed to eat there -- we began eating before the dress code was required, but we didn't manage to get out before the real posh crowd came in. The food was nice, but I kept nodding off... and was rudely surprised by a tomato aspic. Ew.

As for the rest of the days there:

Friday
Tower of London, Eton, and Windsor Castle

Saturday
Westminster Cathedral, Parliament, the Cabinet War Rooms, Harrod's, the Savoy Grill, and a musical (Rat Pack)

Sunday
Chartwell, Hever Castle

Monday
Bath, London's West End

Tuesday
Leeds Castle, Leicester Square

Wednesday
Hampton Court, Shopping in London

Thursday
Salisbury Cathedral, Winchester Cathedral, Winchester Castle

Friday
Flight home!

I'll cover the trip in more depth when I get my pictures digitized and uploaded.

City of Character Generation

City of Heroes is incredibly fun. It has the same addictive draw that kept me enthralled in early Everquest and with the Discworld MUD. Not only is the setting fresh and the superhero powers fun to use, but the group tactics are engaging and make for a constant series of interesting decisions. In other words, it's a game. I may have spoiled myself for other games.

I've been having a ton of fun with their character generator and showing off these pictures like they're my kids, so here they are again:

Doctor Sensible
The Infinity Ball
Jonny Kingsford
Lister
Mister Papercut
Papa Cass
Tiny P-Funk

This game is well worth the price, I think. It's just too fun to put down.

don't hang around 'cause two's a crowd
